Where Mann is better
Something writes back. When you save in Daybook, the entry is saved. When you save in Mann, it says back the one sentence you buried in paragraph four, then stops. Daybook's AI summarises and suggests improvements. Mann's does not summarise, advise, or ask.
Indian languages. Daybook's screens run in Hindi among ten languages. Mann writes back in Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Marathi, and was tuned for Hinglish rather than translated into it. When you write "Papa said the usual thing about the job", Mann does not need the usual thing explained.
What the servers hold. Daybook's site says entries are encrypted in transit and stored on its cloud database. Mann's entries are encrypted on your phone before they are stored, so Mann's servers hold ciphertext. The AI still reads the entry in flight to write the reflection. The difference is what sits on the server afterwards. And when you want it gone, Mann deletes everything from inside the app, immediately; Daybook's policy asks you to email them and gives itself 60 to 90 days.
Where Daybook is better
Price. ₹99 against ₹199 a month. ₹1,049 against ₹1,699 a year. Plus a one-time ₹9,900 option that Mann does not offer.
A web app, and sync. Daybook runs on a phone, a tablet and a laptop, and the same entries show up on all three, on the free plan. Mann does not. The key never leaves the phone that made it, so a second device cannot open the entries.
Photos, PDF, and a lock. Daybook holds photos in an entry, exports to PDF, and has a passcode and biometric lock. Mann is text and has no export yet. Both lock: Daybook with a passcode, Mann with your phone's biometrics, with encryption underneath.
Who each is for
For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with. It is free, it is in your language, and it costs ₹199 a month if you ever pay.
