Where Mann is better
Price, and where the AI sits. On Stoic the AI is the top plan, ₹1,299 and ₹9,900 on the App Store India listing. On Mann the AI reflection is on the free plan, one a day, with no end date. Premium is ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year.
Indian languages. Stoic lists eight European languages and no Indian one. Mann writes back in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, and was tuned for Hinglish rather than translated into it.
A streak that does not punish you. Stoic's home page says streaks and badges keep you motivated, and its help centre explains how to win a lost streak back. Mann's streak counter tracks the same thing and punishes nothing: no lost badge, no "we miss you" push. Reminders only if you set them.
Android. Stoic's help centre says its Android app has fewer features than iOS and cannot sync with it. Mann is the same app on both.
The context. When you write "Papa said the usual thing about the job", Mann does not need the usual thing explained. That is the reason it exists.
Where Stoic is better
Devices. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and a browser, synced through your own iCloud. Mann is two phone apps with no sync, because the on-device key never leaves the phone that wrote the entry. If you journal at a laptop, that matters.
A whole routine. Planner, mood log, habit tracker, meditation, breathing and a journal in one app. Mann is a journal.
No company in the middle. Stoic's help centre says it has no servers of its own; your entries stay on your device or in your iCloud. Mann keeps encrypted entries on its servers. Both send the entry to an AI when you ask for a reflection. In Mann, a private safety screen reads every finished entry once, and the AI reads it in flight to write the reflection.
Export, import, and ten mentors. Stoic exports to JSON or TXT, imports Day One backups, and gives the AI ten voices, from a calm Seneca to an "Evil Ego" that argues with you. Mann has no import today and one voice, quiet on purpose.
Who each is for
For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with. It is free, it is in your language, and it costs ₹199 if you ever pay.
Mann is for someone with nobody safe to tell. You write the thing, in whatever language it arrives in. Mann says back the sentence you buried in paragraph four, and gets out of the way. It is free, it stays free, and the paid plan is ₹199 a month.
Stoic is for someone who wants a practice. Morning plan, evening reflection, a streak to keep, a mentor who sounds like Marcus Aurelius, synced across Apple devices in your own iCloud. It is built for English and Apple hardware.
