If you searched "Wysa vs Mann", you probably already know Wysa. It is the app most people in India name first when they think of talking to an AI about how they feel. It has been on the Play Store since 2016, it is made in Bengaluru, and its site says over six million people have used it. Mann is newer, smaller, and a different kind of thing.
We make Mann, so read this knowing that. Wysa is not a journal, and this page does not pretend it competes with one. It is a chat and self-help platform with mood tracking inside, and we compare it on that basis.
Everything about Wysa below comes from Wysa's website, FAQ, privacy policy, and its App Store and Play Store listings for India, read on 9 September 2026. The links are at the bottom.
The short answer
Pick Mann if you want to write the thing down and keep it, in Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali or Marathi, and want one sentence said back rather than a conversation.
Pick Wysa if you want someone to talk to right now, for free, for as long as you like, with breathing and CBT-style exercises offered mid-conversation, and the option of a human coach later.
Price, side by side
| Wysa | Mann | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | "Talking to Wysa AI is free, including tools offered within conversations." No message limit is stated. | Free, no expiry. Unlimited entries, one AI reflection a day, 10 chat messages a week. |
| Monthly | ₹599 (Wysa Premium Monthly, App Store India). | ₹199 |
| Yearly | ₹3,749 (Wysa Premium Annual, App Store India). | ₹1,699 |
| Other items | A "Wysa Premium" item at ₹399 with no billing period stated. | None. |
| Human help | Therapist access ₹1,499 a week or ₹7,200 a quarter. Video therapy ₹1,499 to ₹8,900. Coaching ₹2,399 to ₹2,449. | None. Mann is a journal, not a therapy or coaching platform. |
Wysa Premium is about three times Mann Premium per month and twice per year. The listing also names a 'Wysa Premium' item at ₹399 with no billing period stated, so the monthly gap may be smaller than ₹599 suggests. But the free plans are not alike: Wysa's free chat has no stated cap, and Mann's is 10 messages a week.
Feature by feature
| Wysa | Mann | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens when you write | You do not write an entry. You chat. Wysa replies, asks structured questions, and offers exercises from its "care library". Journaling is guided prompts inside the chat. | You write an entry and save it. Mann says back the one thing that carried the most weight, then stops. No advice, no question. |
| Languages | "Native English." Select services in four other languages and "certain languages of India". The App Store lists English only. A separate Hindi app, व्यासा, sits under the same developer on Play. | Writes back in 8 Indian languages, Hinglish included. The app's own screens are in Hindi, Hinglish and English. |
| What it costs in India | Free chat with no stated limit. Premium ₹599 a month or ₹3,749 a year (App Store India), plus a "Wysa Premium" item at ₹399 with no billing period stated. | Free plan, no expiry. Premium ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year. |
| Where your words go | Chats are encrypted in transit and stored on Wysa's servers under AES-256. Conversation data is processed by its own AI and "third-party Large Language Models". | Entries are encrypted on your phone before they are stored. Mann's servers hold ciphertext. Your words are read in flight, not at rest: a private safety screen reads every finished entry once, even one that gets no reflection, and the AI (Google Gemini) reads it when it writes your reflection. Nothing is kept. Chat messages are not encrypted yet. |
| Made for | A global audience, and employers, insurers and health systems. Touchkin eServices Private Limited, Bengaluru. | India. Joint families, career pressure, the rishta conversation, log kya kahenge. A small team in Pune. |
| Chat | The whole product. Free, with no stated limit. Rule-based replies plus a large language model. | A separate "Talk to Mann" chat. 10 messages a week free, unlimited on Premium, within a fair-use budget of 200 AI calls a day. |
| Memory across sessions | Past chats sit in a "Journey" tab. Whether the AI recalls them on its own is not stated on their site. | Split. The reflection you get after saving is written from that entry alone, with no history. Memory shows up elsewhere: chat, the opening prompt and the weekly report draw on the opening of your recent entries and up to ten open threads Mann is still holding. Threads expire after 30 days and you can delete any of them. |
| Voice | A "text or voice-based digital coach", plus audio exercises. Voice journaling as such: not stated. | Voice journaling on Premium. |
| Platforms | Android, iOS, web, Mac and Apple Vision. | Android and iOS. No web app. Entries cannot be opened on a second phone, because the key never leaves the first one. |
| Weekly report | Generated by a third-party model from the mood face you pick at the start of a session and how you use the app. | From your real week: mood, days written, word counts, the people you mentioned. Full version on Premium. |
| Crisis | An always-visible SOS button to local helplines, plus distress detection in chat. Not a crisis service, by its own site. | If an entry reads like a crisis, Mann gives helplines instead of a reflection. iCall 9152987821, Vandrevala Foundation 1860-2662-345. |
Where Mann is better
It is a journal. You write a page and it stays a page. Wysa's own listing calls it a mood journal rolled in with a coach and a chatbot, and its journaling is prompts inside a chat.
Indian languages, written back. Wysa is native English, with "certain languages of India" for select services and a separate Hindi app. Mann writes back in seven Indian languages besides English, from one app, in the mix you wrote in.
What the servers hold, for entries. Wysa stores chats encrypted at rest, processes them with its own AI and third-party models, and says some anonymised chats train its AI. Mann's entries are encrypted on your phone first, so Mann's servers hold ciphertext. A private safety screen still reads every finished entry once, the AI reads it in flight to write the reflection, nothing is kept, and entries are not used to train any model. One caveat the other way: Mann's chat messages are not encrypted yet, and Wysa's are. Put the private thing in an entry, not the chat.
Premium price. ₹199 against ₹599 a month. ₹1,699 against ₹3,749 a year.
The context. When you write "Papa said the usual thing about the job", Mann does not need the usual thing explained. That is the reason it exists.
Where Wysa is better
Free chat with no stated limit. Wysa's FAQ says talking to its AI is free, tools included. Mann's free chat is 10 messages a week, because the writing is the product.
A human on the other end. Wysa sells 30-minute coach sessions and therapist access inside the same app. Mann has no humans. When the thing gets heavier than a page can hold, Wysa has a next step and Mann has a helpline number.
A one-tap SOS. Wysa's SOS button is always visible. Mann's crisis response appears only when what you wrote reads like a crisis.
More screens. Wysa runs on the web, on a Mac, and on Apple Vision. Mann is two phone apps, and an entry stays on the phone it was written on.
The exercises. Wysa's site lists 45 or more peer-reviewed publications and tools from CBT, DBT and mindfulness. Mann has no exercise library and does not claim one.
Who each is for
Mann is for someone with nobody safe to tell, who would rather write it than chat it. You write the thing, in whatever language it arrives in. Mann says back the sentence you buried in paragraph four, and gets out of the way. For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with: it is free, it is in your language, and it is for the thing you cannot say yet. It stays free, and the paid plan is ₹199 a month.
Wysa is for someone who wants to talk, tonight, and be walked through something. It has ten years and research behind it, and a coach on the other end for a price.
Mann is a journaling tool, not a therapist and not a medical device. It sits alongside therapy; it does not replace it. If what you are carrying is getting heavier rather than lighter, call iCall on 9152987821 (Mon to Sat, 8am to 10pm) or the Vandrevala Foundation on 1860-2662-345, free and 24/7.
Questions people ask
Is Wysa available in India? Yes. It is made in Bengaluru, and both India store listings price it in rupees.
