Mann vs Diaro: A Classic Diary or a Journal That Writes Back (2026)

If you searched "Diaro vs Mann", you are choosing between a diary and a journal that writes back. Diaro has more than 50 lakh downloads on Google Play and does the classic diary job well: photos, tags, folders, a web version. Mann does one different thing: when you save an entry, it says something back.

We make Mann, so read this knowing that. The two are not the same kind of app, and we have tried not to pretend otherwise. Where Diaro does something better, we say so.

Everything about Diaro below comes from its own website, FAQ and privacy policy, and its India store listings, read on 9 September 2026. The links are at the bottom.

The short answer

Pick Mann if you want something that says back the one thing carrying the most weight in what you wrote, in Hindi, Hinglish or six other Indian languages, and do not need your entries on a second device.

Pick Diaro if you want a diary with photos, tags and folders, open in a browser and synced across phones, with ads on the free plan or ₹999 a year without them.

What happens when you writeDiaro files the entry by date, folder, tag, mood and location. Nothing reads it back to you.Mann says back the one thing in your entry that carried the most weight, then stops. No advice, no question.
LanguagesApp screens in 35+ languages per the Play description; the App Store listing names 21, Tamil among them. Nothing writes back in any of them.Writes back in 8 Indian languages: English, Hindi, Hinglish, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada. The app's own screens are in Hindi, Hinglish and English.
What it costs in India₹999 a year (Diaro Pro 1 Year, App Store India); monthly price not stated. Play India shows in-app items from ₹250 to ₹1,100.Free plan, then ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year.
Where your words goOn your phone, and in your own Dropbox if you link it. The FAQ says its data "is not stored on our servers". The sync file is encrypted, except photos. A PIN locks the app.Entries are encrypted on your phone before they are stored. Mann's servers hold ciphertext. Your words are read in flight, not at rest: a private safety screen reads every finished entry once, even one that gets no reflection, and the AI (Google Gemini) reads it when it writes your reflection. Nothing is kept.
Made forA global audience. Pixel Crater Ltd.India. Joint families, career pressure, the rishta conversation, log kya kahenge. A small team in Pune.
ChatNone.A separate "Talk to Mann" chat. 10 messages a week free, unlimited on Premium, within a fair-use budget of 200 AI calls a day. Chat messages are not encrypted yet.
Memory across entries"On this day" shows past entries from the same date. No AI, so no thread between entries.Split. The reflection you get after saving is written from that entry alone, with no history. Memory shows up elsewhere: chat, the opening prompt and the weekly report draw on the opening of your recent entries and up to ten open threads Mann is still holding. Threads expire after 30 days and you can delete any of them.
Voice"Speak to write, voice to text", per both store listings. Not in the Premium list, so it appears to be free.Voice journaling on Premium.
Platforms and syncAndroid, iOS, and Diaro Online in a browser. Sync across all of them through Dropbox, on the paid plan.Android and iOS. No web app. Entries cannot be opened on a second phone, because the key never leaves the first one.
InsightsA mood tracker and "detailed statistics about your diary entries and mood".A weekly report from your real week: mood, days written, word counts, the people you mentioned. Full version on Premium.
Photos, tags, exportUnlimited photos, folders, tags, templates. Export to PDF, DOCX, TXT or CSV on the paid plan. Imports from Day One, Journey and Diarium. No photos, tags or export today. Text entries with a mood, and something that writes back.
CrisisNot stated on their site.If an entry reads to Mann like a crisis, Mann gives helplines instead of a reflection: iCall 9152987821, Vandrevala Foundation 1860-2662-345.

Where Mann is better

Something says it back. This is the whole difference. In Diaro you write and the entry is filed. In Mann you write, and Mann says back the sentence you buried in paragraph four, then stops.

Indian languages. Diaro's screens come in 30 or more languages, and nothing writes back in any of them. Mann replies in Hindi, Hinglish, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and English, and was tuned for Hinglish rather than translated into it.

Data use and deletion. Diaro's free plan shows ads. To delete a Diaro account, the FAQ says to email support, then clear a Dropbox folder by hand. Mann deletes everything from inside the app, immediately and permanently.

When it reads like a crisis. Mann gives you helplines instead of a reflection: iCall 9152987821, Vandrevala Foundation 1860-2662-345. Diaro's pages do not mention this.

The context. When you write "Papa said the usual thing about the job", Mann does not need the usual thing explained. That is the reason it exists.

Where Diaro is better

Everything a classic diary does. Photos, folders, tags, a calendar, a map of where you wrote. Mann is text and a mood.

Sync and a web version. Diaro Online runs in a browser, and the paid plan syncs your entries across devices through Dropbox. Mann has no sync and no web app; the key stays on the phone that wrote the entry.

Export and import. Diaro exports to PDF, DOCX, TXT and CSV, and imports from Day One, Journey and Diarium. Mann has no export or import today.

Yearly price and free voice. ₹999 a year against ₹1,699. Diaro's speak-to-write sits outside its Premium list; Mann's voice journaling is on Premium.

Nothing on their servers. Diaro's FAQ says your data lives on your device and in your Dropbox, not on Diaro's servers. Mann's servers hold ciphertext; a safety screen reads every finished entry once and the AI reads it in flight to write the reflection.

Who each is for

Mann is for someone with nobody safe to tell. You write the thing, in whatever language it arrives in. Mann says back the sentence you buried, and gets out of the way. For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with. It is free, it stays free, and the paid plan is ₹199 a month.

Diaro is for someone who keeps a diary the way people always have, with photos, dates and places, organised and on every device. It is mature, cheap, and nothing in it reads your entries.

Questions people ask

Is Diaro available in India? Yes. It is on Google Play India and the App Store India, priced in rupees on both.

Does Diaro support Hindi? The App Store India listing names 21 languages, including Tamil but not Hindi. The Play listing says 35+ without naming them. That covers buttons and menus; nothing in Diaro writes back to you. Mann replies in 8 Indian languages.

Which is cheaper? Diaro, by the year: ₹999 against Mann's ₹1,699. Diaro's monthly price is not stated; Mann's is ₹199. Both have free plans. Diaro's shows ads.

Can I move from Diaro to Mann? Diaro exports on the paid plan. Mann has no import today. You would start fresh, which some people prefer.

If that is what you were looking for

Writing in Mann is free, as much as you like, with one AI reflection a day and 10 chat messages a week. Premium is ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year. Get Mann here.

Or don't. A paper notebook does most of this, and we say that on every page. Diaro is closer to the notebook than Mann is. The one thing neither can do is say back the sentence you buried in paragraph four.

Still deciding? This page is one of thirty. The whole set, with prices in rupees and the rows each app wins, is in Best AI journaling apps in India.
