Where Mann is better
Price. ₹199 against ₹999 a month. ₹1,699 against ₹9,900 a year. And Mann's free plan is written down: unlimited entries, one reflection a day, 10 chat messages a week, no end date.
Indian languages. Life Note lists nine languages, and none of them is Indian. Mann writes back in seven Indian languages and English, and was tuned for Hinglish rather than translated into it.
Where the key lives. Both apps encrypt entries before they are stored, and both decrypt an entry to write the AI reply. Neither hides your words from its own AI. In Mann, a private safety screen reads every finished entry once, and the AI reads it in flight to write the reflection. The difference is who holds the key. Life Note's key sits in a cloud key service on their side, which is how it can sync. Mann's key stays on your phone, which is why it cannot.
Deleting. In Mann you delete everything from inside the app, at once. Life Note's privacy policy asks you to email a request, answers within 7 business days, and keeps backups up to 90 days.
Quiet. Mann says one thing back and stops. No council, no follow-up question. At 11pm with something you cannot tell anyone, that is often enough.
The context. When you write "Papa said the usual thing about the job", Mann does not need the usual thing explained.
Where Life Note is better
Memory. Life Note's site says the AI "connects today's entry to past reflections". If you want an app that, in March, brings up what you said in January, Life Note does that and Mann does not. Mann's reflection is written from the entry alone. Its memory sits in chat, the opening prompt and the weekly report, and reaches back about a fortnight.
A web app, and sync. Life Note runs on iOS, Android and in a browser, and its FAQ says your journal syncs across all of them. Mann does not sync.
A council that talks back. Life Note answers an entry with several mentors modelled on historical figures. Mann is one voice, once.
Export. Life Note's site says you can export anytime and connect the journal to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Mann does not.
Who each is for
For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with. It is free, it is in your language, and it costs ₹199 if you ever pay.
Mann is for someone with nobody safe to tell. You write the thing, in whatever language it arrives in. Mann says back the sentence you buried in paragraph four, and gets out of the way. Free, and Premium is ₹199 a month.
Life Note is for someone who wants mentors. Voices modelled on people you admire write back, remember, and follow up. It has goals, rituals, a painted weekly portrait and a web app, in English, for ₹999 a month.
