If you searched "Notion vs Mann", you probably already keep a journal page in Notion. A daily template, a mood property, one row per day. It works, and you are wondering whether an app built only for journaling changes anything. This page puts the two side by side.
We make Mann, so read this knowing that. Notion is not a journaling app, and does not claim to be one. Its Play listing says "notes, tasks, AI". We compare it because a lot of people use it as a journal anyway, and deserve a straight answer.
Everything about Notion below comes from Notion's pricing page, Notion AI page, security pages, and Play Store listing for India, read on 9 September 2026. The links are at the bottom.
The short answer
Pick Mann if you want to write the thing at 11pm in Hindi, Hinglish or Tamil, have something say back what mattered in it, and have the entry encrypted on your phone before it is stored.
Pick Notion if you want one place for your notes, tasks and journal, want it on a laptop and a phone, and are happy to build the structure yourself.
Price, side by side
| Notion | Mann | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Free for personal use. Unlimited pages and blocks for individuals. Notion AI as a "limited trial" only. | Free, no expiry. Unlimited entries, one AI reflection a day, 10 chat messages a week. No trial. |
| Monthly | Plus $12 per member. Business, which includes Notion AI, $24 per member. The pricing page shows USD, EUR and GBP. No INR price. | ₹199 |
| Yearly | Plus $10 a month billed yearly ($120). Business $20 a month billed yearly ($240). | ₹1,699 |
| In-app, Play India | ₹1,200.00 to ₹21,500.00 per item. What each item is: not stated on the listing. | ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year. |
The plain arithmetic: a page to write on is free on both. An AI that reads what you wrote is Notion's Business plan at $24 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly, against Mann at ₹199.
Feature by feature
| Notion | Mann | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens when you write | Nothing, unless you ask. Notion AI can edit, summarise or draft when you invoke it. It is an AI for work, not for entries. | Mann says back the one thing in your entry that carried the most weight, then stops. No advice, no question. |
| Languages | Not stated on the pages we read. Neither the pricing page nor the Play India listing lists app languages. | Writes back in 8 Indian languages: English, Hindi, Hinglish, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada. The app's own screens are in Hindi, Hinglish and English. |
| What it costs in India | Free for personal use, unlimited pages. Notion AI needs Business, $24 a member a month, or $20 a month billed yearly. Play India in-app purchases run ₹1,200 to ₹21,500 per item; the pricing page shows USD, EUR and GBP only, no INR. | Free, no expiry. Premium ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year. |
| Where your words go | Encrypted in transit. Protected "while transmitted, stored, or processed", per the security page. With Notion AI, pages go to providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic, who keep them up to 30 days on non-Enterprise plans. Not used to train models by default. On-device encryption: not stated. | Entries are encrypted on your phone before they are stored. Mann's servers hold ciphertext. Your words are read in flight, not at rest: a private safety screen reads every finished entry once, even one that gets no reflection, and the AI (Google Gemini) reads it when it writes your reflection. Nothing is kept. |
| Made for | Work. "AI's everything app", per the Play listing. Notion Labs, Inc., San Francisco. | India. Joint families, career pressure, the rishta conversation, log kya kahenge. A small team in Pune. |
| Chat | Notion AI chat, included on Business and Enterprise, a limited trial on Free and Plus. It answers from your workspace and the web. | A separate "Talk to Mann" chat. 10 messages a week free, unlimited on Premium, within a fair-use budget of 200 AI calls a day. Chat messages are not encrypted yet. |
| Memory across entries | Yes, on paid AI plans. Notion indexes every page so the AI can answer across your whole workspace. | Split. The reflection you get after saving is written from that entry alone, with no history. Memory shows up elsewhere: chat, the opening prompt and the weekly report draw on the opening of your recent entries and up to ten open threads Mann is still holding. Threads expire after 30 days and you can delete any of them. |
| Voice | AI Meeting Notes transcribes meetings, on Business. Voice journaling is not a feature Notion lists. | Voice journaling on Premium. |
| Weekly report or insights | None built in. You can build a mood column yourself. | A weekly report from your real week: mood, days written, word counts, the people you mentioned. Full version on Premium. |
| Crisis | Not stated on their site. | If an entry reads like a crisis, Mann gives helplines instead of a reflection: iCall 9152987821, Vandrevala Foundation 1860-2662-345. |
| Platforms | Browser, Mac, Windows, iOS, Android. "Pick up on mobile where you left off on desktop." | Android and iOS. No web app. Entries cannot be opened on a second phone, because the key never leaves the first one. |
Where Mann is better
The reply. In Notion, an entry sits there. Nothing reads it unless you ask, and what Notion AI does when asked is edit, summarise or answer, as it would for a meeting note. A private safety screen reads every finished entry once, and the AI reads it in flight to say back the sentence that was carrying the weight. Notion does not have that.
Price for the AI part. Notion AI is included on Business at $24 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly, per member. Mann's reflection is free once a day, and unlimited on Premium, within a fair-use budget of 200 AI calls a day at ₹199 a month.
Indian languages. The Notion pages we read do not list Hindi, and the pages we read name no Hinglish. Mann writes back in eight Indian languages and was tuned for Hinglish rather than translated into it.
What the servers hold. Notion's pages say encryption in transit and protection while stored, not on-device encryption. Mann encrypts every entry on your phone before it is stored, so Mann's servers hold ciphertext. Notion sends a page to an AI when you ask. Mann sends every finished entry once for a safety screen, and again when it writes your reflection. Notion's providers keep pages up to 30 days on non-Enterprise plans. Mann's servers do not retain the text they send to the model.
Nothing to build. At 11pm, a blank Notion page asks where it goes and what the template is. Mann asks one question in your language and waits.
Where Notion is better
Everywhere at once. Notion runs in a browser, on Mac, on Windows and on both phones, and syncs between them. Mann is a phone app, and an entry written on one phone cannot be opened on another. If you journal at a laptop, Notion follows you there.
Structure you control. A journal database with a mood property, tags for people, your tasks on the next page. Notion lets you build the journal you want, free, with no block limit for an individual. Mann gives you one shape.
Memory across everything, if you pay. On Business, Notion AI can answer a question across every page you have written. Mann's reflection is written from the entry alone. Its memory sits in chat, the opening prompt and the weekly report, and reaches back about a fortnight.
Export. Notion's pricing page lists a whole-workspace export as HTML, Markdown and CSV.
Who each is for
Mann is for someone with nobody safe to tell. You write the thing, in whatever language it arrives in. Mann says back the sentence you buried in paragraph four, and gets out of the way. It is free, it stays free, and the paid plan is ₹199 a month.
For most people reading this in India, Mann is the one to start with. It is free, it is in your language, and it costs ₹199 if you ever pay.
Notion is for someone whose journal is one page among many. Tasks, reading list and evening notes in one workspace, designed by you, in English, at a desk as often as on a phone.
Questions people ask
Is Notion available in India? Yes. It is on Google Play India with in-app purchases from ₹1,200 to ₹21,500 per item. The pricing page shows USD, EUR and GBP only.
Does Notion support Hindi? Not stated on the pages we read. Mann replies in 8 Indian languages, Hindi and Hinglish included.
Which is cheaper? For writing alone, both are free. For an AI that reads your entries, Notion needs Business at $24 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly. Mann is ₹199 a month, and one reflection a day is free.
Can I move from Notion to Mann? Notion exports your workspace as Markdown or CSV. Mann has no import today. You would start fresh and keep the export as an archive.
If that is what you were looking for
Writing in Mann is free, as much as you like, with one AI reflection a day and 10 chat messages a week. Premium is ₹199 a month or ₹1,699 a year. Get Mann here.
Or don't. A paper notebook does most of this, and so does a Notion page, and we say that on every page. The one thing neither can do is say back the sentence you buried in paragraph four.
Still deciding? This page is one of thirty. The whole set, with prices in rupees and the rows each app wins, is in Best AI journaling apps in India.
